You did it, you made it through all 10 attacking principles and had the chance to analyze some possessions yourself, let’s sharpen your skills even more by looking at some bad possessions.

While you’re looking at these possessions I want you to consider how you would coach your players if they had possessions like these? Could they have used more Attacking Principles, or did they miss a mini advantage opportunity?

And don’t forget our two talking points, did their decisions help create a mini advantage for the team and did they decide quickly?

Here are my notes for the four possessions in this video.

POSSESSION #1:
The alignment was too easy for a 2-3 zone to match up. I would have liked someone to have tried to attack a gap at some point and not so content just passing from side to side. Ball enters middle but once the center steps out, he becomes a non-threat from that distance. #10 and #2 had a mini advantage, there was enough time for one last pass to #2 in the corner.

POSSESSION #2:
Too much standing around when the ball went to the post, poor spacing from the players up top giving the defense a chance to double on the dribble from the post player.

POSSESSION #3:
The offense missed a few opportunities to get the ball in the middle to create a 2-on-1 with #23 against the middle defender. #33 was too passive and settled for the long shot with two defenders on him.

POSSESSION #4:
When the ball went in to the middle, the ball handler didn’t move quickly which allowed the defense to recover. Then he missed the 2-on-1 with #2 and #4 up top against #35 and drove against two defenders instead.
